The boy’s interest clearly mirrors our own misdirected priorities, don’t they?
We look with wonder and excitement to distant planets, stars and galaxies; but we have yet to attain the same interest in sane and rational living on this planet. Recent news reports have heralded newly-discovered information about mysterious black holes and about the farthest regions of space. But while we can’t hear enough about such distant matters, we seem, oddly enough, either oblivious or resigned to the fact of our own world carelessly destroying itself with sin, crime and self-indulgence.
If it’s a matter of choosing between space and sane living, we’ll select space travel every time!
The Bible tells the beautiful story of God coming down, from heaven to earth, in the person of Jesus Christ. This sublime Savior lived a spotless life and died a horrific death, and did so not for himself, but for a lost and dying world – for you and for me. He is the only way to God, the only way to heaven.
And yet many of us are just not interested. We look instead to science, recreation, business or sports – anywhere but where we should be looking! And then we wonder why life seems to have no meaning, no purpose, no substance. Without a genuine hunger and thirst for righteousness we will never be filled.
