We often hear the complaint that life is not fair; and if focus is directed toward this present life of flesh, we must agree. God never promised this world to be fair for everyone, all the time.
True “equality” and unchallenged “rights” will never be fully realized in this life. There will always be someone willing to violate your rights in a self- centered attempt to establish or protect his own. Neither should we expect justice to always be meted out fully and fairly. With a view to physical and financial concerns, crime often does pay. Unprincipled sinners may sprint past conscientious saints on the crowded “dog eat dog” course of life’s uneven highway. These are the facts – and facts are not concerned with matters of fairness.
Such inequities disturb and unsettle us in proportion to the depth of affection we have for this world. When our primary goal in life concerns nothing but this life, we naturally become depressed and distraught when life seems to pass us by. We are quick to cry, “foul,” when looking at things through flesh-colored glasses.
Our vision must not be limited to this present world. We are Christians, children of God, and we are not yet home! We are but pilgrims here. (1 Peter 2:11.) Our citizenship is in heaven. (Philippians 3:30, ASV.)
Read again the inspired reflection of Paul, the apostle: “I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” (Romans 8:18.) And this from the pen of a man who spent the better part of his ministry either in prison or facing the peril of relentless persecution!
Now what is that you were complaining about?
